Ladies and gentlemen,
In a significant step towards promoting peace in Sudan, over 100 African religious and civil institutions have launched a unified call from the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, to stop the war in Sudan. This call comes within the framework of the African Day for Sudan Peace, which comes directly after the International Day of Peace, to emphasize the importance of comprehensive peace and universal justice in this devastated country.
Sudan, which has long suffered from conflicts, wars, and political unrest, needs now more than ever an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire, protection of civilians, and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid. There is also an urgent need to launch a comprehensive political process that represents all components of the Sudanese people who believe in freedom, peace, and justice.
In this call, we affirm the unity of Sudan, land and people, and condemn the escalation of hate speech and media misinformation. We also call on media professionals, activists, and civil society organizations to raise their voices for truth and peace, and we commend the bravery of journalists and activists who continue to convey the suffering of civilians despite the challenges they face.
True peace is not imposed from above, but built from the grassroots. Therefore, we call for the inclusion of youth and women in all stages of negotiation. We also call for regional coordination led by religious institutions in cooperation with IGAD and the African Union to stop the bloodshed and put an end to the suffering of millions of Sudanese.
In conclusion, we affirm our commitment to being a voice for peace, unity, and social cohesion, a bridge for solidarity, and a platform for love. We will remain the voice of peace and love on the continent for the sake of Sudan, and we will work hard to ensure the achievement of comprehensive peace and universal justice in this beloved country.
